Querencia Press accepts poetry, fiction, non-fiction (including memoir), hybrid work, and occasionally visual art. Please include a short, third-person bio and your pronouns with your submission. *hardsells are listed on our website
- We accept simultaneous submissions and previously published work that has appeared in print or online (this includes blogs and social media). As long as you hold the copyright to the work, we want to see it!
- You keep the rights to your work! Your work belongs to you!
- Querencia Press does not charge a submission fee (though tips are much appreciated). If a manuscript is accepted, you will receive a contract with competitive royalty options, but we are a non-paying market for anthologies. We do not provide physical contributor copies, but we do provide a discount link for contributors.
- We do not tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, ableism, or any other forms of bigotry. We do accept explicit content, but please provide a trigger warning so we know what we are reading.
- Querencia is a small press. We have only one full time editor and our entire team consists of volunteers. We read and consider each submission carefully in the order that it is received, and we do not believe in silent rejections. You will receive a response. Please try to resist sending follow up emails regarding when your submission will be read. We are currently processing manuscript responses on about a 6-8 month turnaround due to the volume of submissions, sometimes longer for acceptances if we have a large acceptance rate for a particular month.
- All submissions should be in a single .pdf, .doc, or .docx format, however we do not require any specific formatting guidelines. Visual submissions can be sent as PDF, JPG, PNG, or TIFF (please no RAW files) Do not send us Google Docs or Pages—we cannot use them across all of our devices, and if we have to ask for you to resend your submission in a different format, it increases your wait time (if you absolutely have to send Pages because of Apple, please inform us and know we may take a bit longer to get to your submission based on when we have a device available to access Pages). For anthology submissions we ask that you title your document with the genre and the number of pieces and to which anthology callout you are submitting (i.e. Poetry - 5 Pieces - Quarterly Anthology). We do not need a cover letter, but please include a short 3rd person bio and your pronouns with all submissions.
We are looking for chapbooks and full-lengths in any genre. For poetry and hybrid work, we are seeking work with a minimum of 20 pages. Prose manuscripts should be a minimum of 7,000 words. There is no page or word count limit, but please let us know what genre the work best falls into. We currently publish most manuscripts in a 6x9 softcover format, with a minimum 11pt font, so if you have unique formatting you may want to see what your manuscript will look like in this size. Please submit your work in a single document (any accepted manuscripts will need to be converted to .doc or.docx, but if you have unusual formatting submitting a PDF is best). We will close December of each year to catch up on our sub pile and prepare for the end of the fiscal year.
Visual Art Manuscripts - We are looking for chapbooks and full-lengths in any genre. There is no page limit right now (we reserve the right to change that in the future), but please let us know what genre the work most closely falls into along with if you are submitting a work combining written and visual art or a purely graphic submission. We will be publishing most work in letter size and 6.625 x 10.25, however our goal is to work with the size that is best suited to your work. When sending written/visual hybrids, please send your work as a PDF. If your work is accepted, we may request a .doc/.docx file with just text and images sent individually depending on the nature of the work. If sending only visual work, please send in one of the following formats: .jpg, .png, .pdf, .tiff *note - if your work is accepted we may request a higher resolution image or for the format to be converted depending on the project. We cannot use RAW files, as not all devices support them.
Additionally of note, we are not looking for pitches or for text to graphic novel options. We will only be accepting fully realized work at this time, so there is no need to send a script if you are submitting a graphic novel. If we are ever able in the future to pair up graphic artists with writers, we will make sure to update this space with that opportunity.
our quarterly anthologies are unthemed and open on a rolling basis. If you submit outside of a callout, your work will be added to the next submission window. We do not accept visual art for the quarterly anthologies.

We are crows. We are vultures. We are raccoons and hyenas and coyotes, golden jackals, bald-faced hornets, red-bellied piranhas and wolves. A scavenger feeds on carrion, dead plant material, refuse; we search for and collect discarded items; we clean up your streets. In a world dominated by gluttony, we are here to pick up the scraps. Give us your tiny little whispers, your howls, your gasps. Give us the ugly parts, the true parts, the things you think no one will have any use for. We have use for them. They are sustenance. They are life. Give us the weird art you think no one will love, the almost stories, the things you don’t know what to do with but can’t bear to toss in the trash.
Scavengers accepts work of hybridity, experimental, fragmentary or flash. We accept art, comics and mixed media images. We don’t define these things, instead we want you to show us what these words mean to you. Send us your proems, your friction, your flessays, your fabricated genres or forms. We are especially fond of analog collages! We are also now open to short or micro chapbook reviews and interviews, 1000 words or less.
IMPORTANT DETAILS: Written work should be less than or around 1000 words (we aren’t math people, nor are we going to count your words, but it will be obvious if you go way over). Submit up to (and only) three pieces of poetry, prose, art, during open calls. Do not submit more than once during each open call. If you do, that work will be automatically rejected. All 3 pieces should be sent in the same submission. Check our instagram account @scavengers.lit to stay up-to-date on all things Scavengers related. If you’ve found that we are open for submissions, please submit up to 3 pieces and include a short (50 words or less) biographical statement in third person including your pronouns. The subject line should have the titles of your works, so if submitting art, please give each piece a title. Please upload all submissions as a microsoft word .docx or .doc file.
We are an online and print journal, but we only post a few of each issues pieces online as a sort of teaser in the lead up to the print journal releasing, however we will highlight each contributor on our instagram after each issue is published. We aren’t currently a paying journal, but we will also never charge for submissions, but we do have a tip jar. We are especially interested in work by disabled, chronically ill, womxn and the enby community. We do not tolerate hate speech and gratuitous violence for the sake of violence. Querencia is a safe space for those who’ve experienced trauma and Scavengers, by extension, is too.
